The Timmy’s Tour de Shore 2008 Fundraising will take full advantage of the internet.  All participants in Timmy’s Tour de Shore will be given a personal “fundraiser’s page”.  This is how it works:

  • Register for the ride:  All participants for Timmy’s Tour de Shore 2008 will need to register online, through our partner, ActiveGiving.com: http://www.active.com/donate/timmystourdeshore08
  • Register a team:  Timmy’s Tour de Shore allows individual registration as well as team registrations.   You get to name the team.  The team name could be your name, last name, some special name, or even a name that includes your name and the name of your employer.  (See Fundrasing idea below.)
  • Register yourself.  The registration website will register you for the ride, and then automatically create a fundraisers page especially for you.
  • Customize your fundraising page. The ActiveGIving Web site will build your fundraising page.  The page will have a section to allow you to add your own special message to help you in your appeal for sponsors to make donations to Timmy’s Tour de Shore.  The fundraising page will also have a message from the Foundation to help explain our mission and why it is so important.
  • Set a personal fundraising goal.   One way to help increase your effectiveness as a fund raiser is to let everyone know the goal you are trying to reach.  This will help give your supporters an incentive to push you to your goal and even surpass it.
  • Enter Email Addresses.  After you enter your personal fundraising message, and set your personal fundrasing goal, the next step is to enter the email addresses of family, friends, associates and co-workers.
  • It's that simple!   The email addresses you entered are used by ActiveGIving to send your custom email to everyone you listed.  Now, as your sponsors make donations, your personal web page will get updated with a running total of donations.
  • Who will raise the most? We’ll be tracking top fund raisers and top fund raising teams.   The Timmy’s Tour de Shore web site will have scrolling lists showing the top 50 teams and fundraisers.

Setting Up Your Personal Fundraising Page Is Easy!

Customize your fundraising page. Customizing your own page can be done in 3 easy steps:

  1. Go to http://www.active.com/donations/campaign_hq.cfm
  2. Log in using your “Active” account (this is the one you created when you registered).  If you forgot your account or password, just click on “forgot password” and Active will email you your user ID and password.
  3. Once you are logged in you will be on the “My ActiveGiving HQ” page.  Now, you’re all set to create your page!

>> Click “Customize your message”: This will allow you to add your own message on the page.
>> Edit Campaign Details: This is were you add your message and picture
>> Change Layout Design: There are five “templates” that can be used.  Each one uses the “details” from the first step…. But paints them on the screen differently.
>> Set Color Schemes: You get to pick your favorite color….

When you are done – click on “save” at the bottom of the screen. If your page isn’t ‘just right’, don’t worry - you can go back in at any time to update it!) You can now email your fundraising page to your family, friends, co-workers and others that you want to reach out to…  The link you mail should look like this: http://www.active.com/donate/timmystourdeshore08/xx-your-page-xx

Tip: You can also use your ActiveGiving HQ page to enter email addresses to help organize and send the email… just click on the “Send Emails” tab.

Raising $500 or More in Twelve Days

Your personal fundraising website from ActiveGiving should be able to give your fundraising efforts a tremendous jump-start. Once you set up your fundraising page, set a goal, and make a plan for contacting people you know.   Here is a sample plan:

  • Day 1  – Sponsor yourself for $50
  • Day 3  - Ask four family members to sponsor you for $25
  • Day 5  – Ask ten friends to each contribute $20.
  • Day 7  – Ask twenty co-workers to each contribute $20
  • Day 9  – Ask five neighbors to each contribute $20.
  • Day 10 – Ask ten more co-workers to each contribute $20
  • Day 12 – Ask four businesses you frequent to contribute $20

Personal Fundraising Website – Some Ideas For Your Email List

When you go to update your fundraising page with your personal email contacts, be creative. Think of all the people you know and interact with either directly or indirectly each week:
    • Your workplace.  Think about not only your immediate co-workers, but consider your friends, colleagues, and associates in other departments.
    • Ask your manager about doing a department wide email.
    • If you work with people in other parts of the world, spread the word, and ask your contacts in Europe, Japan, Asia, and Australia.
    • Enlist neighbors and family to become fundraisers too.
    • Friends involved in the community, such as individuals from your PFA list.
    • Local businesses you deal with.
    • Use the email addresses from your children's sport or activities team(s).
    • Consider creating a team reflecting the name of your employer.  Having a team name like “SomeCompany, Inc– Karen’s Team”  might help to spur your co-workers to spread the word so that “their” team is the #1 fund raiser.
